History of Woodland Hills
Woodland Hills is an upscale neighborhood bordering the Santa Monica Mountains in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California which is located east of Calabasas and west of Tarzana.
In 1910 the biggest land transaction ever recorded in Los Angeles County happened when a syndicate of wealthy investors, led by Harry Chandler of the Los Angeles Times with other affluent members who are Hobart Johnstone Whitley, Gen. Moses Sherman and others formed the Los Angeles Suburban Homes Company. In the 1920s Victor Girard Kleinberger, a visionary land developer purchased himself a 2,866 acres of land from Chandler’s group in the southwest corner of the San Fernando Valley , he then subdivided the land into tiny lots, 6,826 of them and founded the town of Girard. He opened up the town in February 1923 in which he planted 120,000 eucalyptus, pepper, and other shade trees throughout the area in order to attract residents and businesses by developing an infrastructure.
His 300 pepper trees formed a canopy over Canoga Ave. between Ventura Boulevard and Saltillo St. became Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument #93 in 1972. The community established a new Chamber of Commerce and officially changed its name to Woodland Hills – an appropriate name given the number of trees planted by Girard.
Now, Woodland Hills is known as a scenic neighborhood with lots of greenery and a great place to live and enjoy nature since it is between both the mountains and beaches of Malibu. Locals have many recreational activities to choose from, whether your interest is shopping or the outdoors. That’s why this neighborhood makes it a spectacular place to invest in Real Estate.
