History of Calabasas

Calabasas is a city in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles County, California with a population of approximately 23,800 residents. Chumash Indians were the original inhabitants of this area and they named it Calabasas. In the Chumash’s native dialect, it means “where the wild geese fly” but in Spanish the city name means pumpkin or squash. Modern settlements started developing when the Spanish explorers arrived and settled in the 17th century.

The Leonis Adobe was a home to Miguel Leonis, a wealthy rancher. It is an adobe structure in Old Town Calabasas, dates from 1844 and is one of the oldest surviving buildings in greater Los Angeles.

It has been converted into a museum to preserve its history. This place is a must visit for anyone who’s fascinated with historical landmarks and interested in knowing more about the past of Calabasas.Visitors will be taken back in time to the ranching life in the 1800s plus there are a lot of activities to try.

The Malibu Hindu Temple

Located at 1600 Las Virgenes Canyon Rd, Calabasas, CA 91302

The Malibu Hindu Temple is a beautiful temple nestled in the Santa Monica mountains. It was first established in 1981 and is one of the west coast’s largest Hindu temples. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu God Venkateswara and it is owned and operated by the Hindu Temple Society of Southern California,

This temple will leave you in awe with its beautiful carvings and amazing architecture that is worth exploring.
