DIY Rope Baskets: A Simple Way to Tidy Up Your Bathroom

If your bathroom shelves are overflowing and your counter looks like a mini drugstore, you’re not alone. The good news? You don’t need fancy organizers or a trip to the home store to fix it. With a bit of rope, glue, and creativity, you can make your own bath storage baskets that look great and actually hold up. Here’s how to do it.

What You’ll Need

  • Thick cotton rope (about ⅜ inch wide works well)
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Scissors
  • A bowl or box to use as a mold (optional)
  • Paint or dye (if you want color)

Step 1: Start the Base

Take one end of your rope and roll it into a tight spiral — this will be the bottom of your basket. Use a small line of hot glue between each turn to hold it together. Continue until the base is the desired size — perhaps small for cotton pads, larger for towels or bottles.

Step 2: Build the Walls

Once your base is set, start stacking the rope upward. Instead of gluing it flat, place each new round slightly on top of the last one so it curves up. Keep adding glue and coiling until the basket is as tall as you like.
Tip: For a clean, even shape, wrap your rope around a bowl or box as you build. It’ll act as a guide and keep the walls straight.

Step 3: Add Handles (Optional but Handy)

When you reach your desired height, stop coiling and leave two small gaps for handles. Just skip gluing those sections, then continue wrapping the rope around them to form openings.

Step 4: Seal the Ends and Style It

Cut the rope cleanly and glue the end securely inside or underneath the last round to hide it. If you want to personalize your basket, brush on a bit of paint, dip-dye the bottom half, or wrap a few sections with twine for contrast.

Step 5: Fill and Admire

Once it’s dry and sturdy, your basket is ready to use. Fill it with rolled towels, bath bombs, makeup, or even toilet paper. It’s soft, simple, and adds a cozy handmade touch to your space.
You don’t need a workshop or special tools to make something beautiful and useful. Rope baskets are easy, affordable, and customizable — plus, they instantly make your bathroom feel more organized and put-together. The best part? You’ll actually want to keep things tidy when your storage looks this good.
